Academic Programs:
English
7th Grade English
Students review parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, conjunctions, and interjections. Students will learn how parts of speech function in a sentence through writing exercises, and diagramming. In addition to grammar, writing skills are emphasized. Substantial class time is devoted to the student’s required research paper for Science Fair. Each step of the writing process is addressed in class and assessed through writing samples. Each written component of the Science Fair paper receives both an English and Science grade. The text used is Loyola Press, Voyages in English, Grammar and Writing.
8th Grade English
The students will prepare to become proficient in the genre of narrative, expository, compare/contrast, and technical writing. The class studies each part of speech in its correct grammatical form and that will help build better writers. The grammar and writing lessons together culminate in writing with confidence and consistency. The text is Loyola Press, Voyages in English, Grammar and Writing.
